Today 22 September the activities start at the Community Library in Massafra at Palazzo De Notaristefani (Via Vittorio Veneto, 15).
Starting this Wednesday all preparatory organisational activities (inventory, cataloguing, etc …) will be carried out for the actual use and opening of the Community Library to the public. A peculiarity is the supply of Braille texts, audio books and technological devices to allow accessibility to the visually impaired.
The innovative Library was created from a Service of the Massafra-Mottola “Le Cripte” Lions Club, in co-operation with UPGI – Università Popolare delle Gravine Ioniche (People’s University of Gravine Ioniche); it is able to offer innovative services for the promotion of reading and culture. The Project was adopted by the Municipality of Massafra, which for its realisation obtained regional funding (Apulia Regional Operations Program 2014/2020, Axis VI, of the “Environmental protection and promotion of natural and cultural resources” – Action 6.7 “Actions for the enhancement and enjoyment of the cultural heritage”).
Following public tender procedures, the Lions Digital Book@Library Social Co-operative will manage the Library, the aim of which is the integration of differently abled workers.
Currently public access, in accordance with the regulations to combat the spread of the Covid-19 virus, is limited to the consultation of the texts and audio books.
